According to the latest census of 2001, there are 13.833 million permanent residents of 56 nationalities in Beijing. The number of the minority nationalities is 590,000. The minorities whose numbers are over 10,000 are the Hui, Manchu, Mongolian, and Korean. The five main religions in Beijing are Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Catholicism and Taoism. There are 105 places open to the public for religious activities. They are 17 Catholic churches, 8 Christian churches, 11 Buddhist temples, one Taoist temple and 68 Moslem mosques.
